This week includes several conversations from different parts of Asian America. You have the opportunity to listen in on conversation from the South Korean diaspora, Filipino diaspora, and Southeast Asian diaspora. You are welcome to engage one or all of the conversations individually or as a group. If you find yourself needing more time to process the conversation, you may always come back to these recordings in subsequent weeks.
Listen and receive the gift of these stories. We encourage you to engage in this week’s reflections in portions. It can be overwhelming to engage in all the conversations at one time, so here is a suggestion for how you can engage in this week’s conversation:
Day 1
Reflect on the introductory devotional and read the lectionary texts. Journal about your thoughts, feelings, questions, curiosities, and prayers.
Day 2
Listen to one conversation and spend time engaging the reflection questions.
Day 3
Listen to another conversation and spend time engaging the reflection questions.
Day 4
Listen to the last conversation and spend time engaging the reflection questions.
Day 5
Spend time engaging the final reflection questions for the whole week and engage this week’s theme of hope through grief and lament.
Day 6
Make space to pray and hold the thoughts, feelings, and prayers that this week’s Scripture and conversations stirred in you.
Subsequent weeks will not have multiple recorded conversations, so you may also choose to spread out your engagement with the recorded conversations through the Advent season.
If you are hoping to use this guide as a part of a church small group or course, please see the resources list below for a link to a Bible study guide on resisting authoritarianism. The guide includes notes for the facilitator. For some communities, it may be helpful to begin with a bible study before engaging with the recorded conversations gifted here.
